Msaka unveils vision for his ‘presidency’

 Democratic Progressive party (DPP) vice-president for Eastern Region Bright Msaka yesterday unveiled his vision for Malawi once elected as presidential candidate at the party’s convention slated for 2023.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lilongwe, Msaka officially announced that he will contest for the party presidency.

Msaka further said once elected as president of the country he will transform lives of Malawians by, among other things, fixing the economy, improving international relations as well as implementing programmes for youths and ensuring that farmers are benefitting from their sweat.

He stressed that he will serve all Malawians and create an enabling environment for everyone to realise their goals and aspirations.

Msaka, who is also MP for Machinga Likwenu, said: “There is need to foster unity among Malawians and not let regions or tribes divide us because we are one. I will use my experience in law, international relations, and in the running of our government at both public service level as well as ministerial level. I know some promised to fight corruption but they ended up being champions of corruption. I will let the work of my hands speak for me.”

According to Msaka the country’s economy is on its deathbed and Malawians are groaning under the pain of hunger, lack of opportunity and rising prices of goods and services.

He, therefore, challenged that once elected as President in 2025 he will repair and grow the broken economy, help individuals and families earn enough

 money for themselves, make agriculture profitable, restore Malawi’s regional and global competitiveness as well as make the country an exporting one.

Msaka also touted himself as the best candidate for DPP who will unite the party and bring to an end the prevailing divisions, saying he will reform the party to make it responsive to the needs of Malawians.

Meanwhile, former president Peter Mutharika has disputed reports that his wife, Gertrude, has endorsed Msaka as DPP 2025 presidential candidate saying the media reports are not true.

Since losing the June 23 2020 Fresh Presidential Election, the former ruling party has been embroiled in political leadership battles which have led to the emergence of two camps in the party.

On July 11 2022, DPP vice-president for the South Kondwani Nankhumwa told party followers at a rally at Nyambadwe ground in Blantyre that he will stand for the party’s presidency at the convention, saying he is ready to face any candidate for the top seat.
